Four Concerts Scheduled at Samohi:

The Santa Monica High School Music Department will present four major concerts in the coming weeks.

On Friday, June 3, Samo’s choirs will give a performance at 7 p.m. in Barnum Hall.

On Monday, June 6, works by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Danny Elfman, John Williams and Alan Silvestri, including selections from Phantom of the Opera, Batman and Back to the Future, will be spotlighted at the Orchestra Pops Concert.

On Saturday, June 11, the band program will put on its annual Pops Concert at 1 p.m. in Barnum Hall, playing a wide variety of songs including music from Star Wars, and Holst’s “Jupiter.”

Also on June 11, the Senior Gala Concert will feature 12th grade musicians performing solo pieces, including works by Elgar, Davidoff, Saint-Saens, Bach, Mozart, Faure, Weber and Vaughan Williams.

The Samohi Symphony Orchestra, winner of the Grand Championship at the 2005 National Orchestra Festival in Reno, and members of the Chamber Orchestra, which received a Superior rating at the festival, will perform.

Both the Orchestra Pops Concert and the Senior Gala Concert will be held at 7 p.m. in Barnum Hall on the Samohi campus. Free parking is available on campus in the North Lot.Tickets are $5 by advance purchase (by today), or $7 at the door. Senior citizens and students (elementary through high school) are $3.
