The Arepa Stand, a Venezuelan pop-up owned by Mercedes Rojas and Zeus Ferrini, sells their delicious arepas at the Farmer’s Markets in Playa Vista on Saturdays and Mar Vista on Sundays, and is raising money for earthquake relief in their native Venezuela after the tragic earthquakes that have destroyed so many lives and caused untold suffering among the survivors.

On Thursday, they will be selling their mini pan de jamon, with ham donated by Peads and Barnett, at the Point Break Night Market, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in Mar Vista at 12912 Venice Boulevard, on the block where Saba Surf and Saby’s Cafe are located.

Their friends, Petitgrain Boulangerie in Santa Monica, will be selling chicha, a traditional Venezuelan rice drink, on Sunday, with all proceeds going to earthquake relief.

Last week, I reported that Chainsaw, in Melrose Hill, at 5022 Melrose Avenue, would be selling their Perro Caliente with the profits going to Venezuelan earthquake relief. This week, they will only be taking cash donations “to put directly in the hands of Venezuelans on the ground in Caracas, buying and distributing food & medicine.” The Venezuelan owner, Karla Subero Pittol, has advised that, “If you would like us to send your donation directly to Venezuela, please Zelle to: karla@chainsawla.com and in the notes write ‘Venezuela Donation’. We’re getting our donations matched and will be sending everything we collect out on Sunday.”

Subero Pittol has promised to update us with more details on Thursday. Also, Chainsaw will be open on July 4, but only for pie pickups. They have said they will have tons of passionfruit lime icebox pies and two other varieties for your July 4th pie needs, along with coffee and matcha drinks.
