Venice Family Clinic, RAND Explore Depression, Disaster:

Venice Family Clinic and the RAND Corporation will explore depression and recovery from disaster From 6 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday, October 19, at RAND in Santa Monica.

The presentation will examine the importance of community partnerships in beating depression and aiding in recovery from disaster.

Clinic volunteer Dr. Kenneth Wells and his colleagues Dr. Bowen Chung and Dr. Neal Baer discuss how communities can rally in difficult times.

Dr. Wells, a psychiatrist and Senior Scientist At RAND, will speak about “The Pain that Kills, The Care that Heals: Overcoming Depression In Communities.”

Dr. Chung, a child and adolescent psychiatrist and Assistant Director of the UCLA/RAND Center for Media, Medicine, and Communities, will speak about local solutions and community involvement.

Dr. Baer, a pediatrician and Executive Producer of the NBC television series “Law & Order:

Special Victims Unit, will talk about media responses and coverage of mental health crisis.
