Brentwood Romps, Awaits Big Tests:

Brentwood’s football team warmed up for important tests immediately ahead by defeating Calvary Chapel, 38-6 last weekend on the campus field.

Games against Whittier Christian this Friday and Campbell Hall the following week will determine the outcome of the Delphic League race.

“They’re probably the No. 1 and 2 teams in our division and we’re right there too,” said Brentwood Coach Patrick Brown.

Whittier Christian defeated Campbell Hall, 20-19, and is tied with Brentwood for first place. This Friday’s showdown is scheduled for Whittier College.

“I like the schedule,” said Brown. “I like having tough games going into the playoffs. When the playoffs begin I don’t believe we’ll face anything tougher.”

In Brentwood’s final home regular season game Brown honored Senior Day by playing seniors throughout the first quarter. One was quarterback Drew Stern, who threw two touchdown passes. Sophomore Mason Moss then threw another.

Kevin Yamazaki, Brentwood’s leading rusher throughout the season, was rested for the upcoming games. He carried the ball only three times but had two touchdowns and led the Eagles in rushing with 78 yards.“I’m a little surprised by our 7-1 record but real pleased with the team,” said Brown. “The players have had a businesslike approach.”
