With the arrival of December comes the start of the high school basketball season.
Most schools begin by competing in tournaments and mixing in non-league games before embarking on their league schedules in January.
In boys’ play, Santa Monica and Crossroads are both competing in the Pacific Shores Tournament in Redondo Beach this week. Santa Monica’s first game was against Redondo and Crossroads opened against Torrance.
Santa Monica will compete in the El Segundo Tournament December 5-6. The Vikings will play at home for the first time December 13 in a non-league game against Mira Costa at 7:30 p.m.
Crossroads will play in the Beverly Hills Tournament beginning December 6 against Buena of Ventura.
New Roads will also be in the Beverly Hills Tournament, after opening its season in the Laguna Beach Tournament.
New Roads will then play two non-league games, December 8 at Bellarmine-Jefferson in Burbank and December 10 at Shalhevet.
St. Monica will open at the Hilltop Classic at Peninsula High and will follow with the Valley Christian Tournament in Cerritos.
Brentwood opened play in the Redondo Pacific Shores this week against Price, a perennial CIF lower division power. Brentwood is also entered in the Beverly Hills Tournament beginning December 5 against Morningside and then will travel to a tournament in Maui.
Malibu has a home game December 6 against Whitney and another the next day against Buckley.
Venice’s season debut is in the Pasadena Rose City tournament this week.
Palisades will play in the Redondo Pacific Shores and has a game December 12 against Crossrosds.
In girls’ play, Santa Monica is in the Moorpark Tournament and opened against Augora. The Vikings are scheduled at Mira Costa December 13 and are home December against Peninsula at 7 p.m.
St. Monica was scheduled for a game at Westridge in Pasadena earlier this week and then goes to the Palisades Tournament.
Crossroads has entered the Buckley Tournament and then the Santa Clarita Christian Tournament.
New Roads begins in the Palisades Tournament and then goes to the Marlborough Tournament.
Lighthouse Christian has a non-league game December 10 at Shalhevet, beginning at 5 p.m.
Brentwood began its season this week against Oaks Christian and will be in the Marlborough Tournament, followed by a game December 13 at St. Monica.
Malibu began at Fillmore and will be at Chadwick Thursday. It will then host Archer December 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Venice opened against Carson and will play at Banning December 6 and will host St. Bernard December 8.Palisades played at Washington and will be at Crenshaw December 8.
