Mighty Mites Make Playoffs:

The Santa Monica Mighty Mites, a team comprised of 22 boys ages 7 to 10 weighing 90 pounds or less, qualified for the playoffs in the Pacific Coast Conference of the American Youth Conference.

The team advanced through the playoffs with wins over Palos Verdes and Torrance and reached the championship game against Lakewood at Downey High, where it lost.

Jason Detamore is the coach and his son, Jordan is the quarterback. One assistant coach is Rick Regalado. Other key players are Aztlan Gonzalez, Ricky Bryant and Clayton Ehrlich. Gonzalez led the team in touchdowns and tackles.This is one division of a youth program that was formerly known as Pop Warner football. In the various divisions there are 200 youngsters competing, mostly from Santa Monica.
