Nomadic Museum Takes Shape:

Now under construction in the 1550 parking lot north of the Santa Monica Pier. a temporary building made largely of recyclable materials is attracting as much attention as the pier.

Designed by architect Shigero Ban, the 56,000 square foot building consists largely of shipping containers and paper tubing, and its configuration is as unusual as the materials it’s made of.

Called the Nomadic Museum, it will house an equally unusual exhibit, “Ashes and Snow,” which will open on January 14.
