Local Firm Wins For Solar House:

Santa Monica-based Pugh + Scarpa Architects has won an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Housing Committee Award.

The winning Solar Umbrella residence in Venice was inspired by mid-century architecture and uses solar energy for 100 percent of the home’s electricity. The AIA jury liked the “multifunctionality” of the house, and stated, “The solar component is an interesting design element that provides shading. The panels are integrated in such a way that they are barely even visible.”

Pugh + Scarpa was founded in Santa Monica in 1991, and now has offices around the country.
