Samohi Softball Team Wins Every League Game:

For the second consecutive year the Santa Monica High softball team has gone undefeated in the Ocean League.

Samohi went 10-0 to beat out second place Culver City, which went 8-2. Overall Samohi has a 20-5 record going into the CIF playoffs this week.

Coach Debbie Skaggs, in her 18th year, has built the hugely successful program.

Last week Samohi completed its league schedule with two wins over Beverly Hills, 10-3 and 3-1.

All-CIF catcher Christine Foley has a .606 batting average. She has five home runs and 19 RBI. Star pitcher Hannah-Rose Peters leads the team with 28 RBI and Zena Ladish batted .500.

On March 17 Santa Monica had a 7-1 non-league victory over New Roads.

The Jaguars went on to an 18-3 season, including 9-1 on the road – the only loss being that game against Santa Monica. New Roads will also enter the CIF playoffs with an undefeated league record. The Jaguars went 8-0 in the Harbor League.

Last week New Roads defeated Rolling Hills Prep, 2-0.

St. Monica had two wins last week – 9-4 over Mary Star and 6-0 over Crossroads. The Mariners’ are 13-10 overall, including 3-5 in the Del Rey League. Amber Angel is batting .565 with five home runs and 25 RBI.

Crossroads played one other game, losing to Whittier Christian, 6-0. The Roadrunners are 3-11, including 2-4 in the Alpha League.

Brentwood defeated Scott Academy, 15-0 and lost to Archer, 4-3 to become 10-9, including 5-5 in the Alpha League.

Malibu lost to Santa Clara, 8-0 and 7-1. The Sharks are 9-13, but 0-8 in the Frontier League.

In the LA City Section, Western League champion Venice defeated Lincoln in its first playoff game, 3-2 but then was eliminated by El Camino Real, 17-0. The Gondoliers finished 13-10, including 10-0 in league games.

Palisades lost to Granada Hills, 9-0 and Bravo, 8-0 and ended its season 7-12, including 4-6 in the Western League.

Boys

St. Monica won its final three games of the regular season to finish 13-10, including 7-5 in the Del Rey League. There were two wins over Bosco Tech, 7-5 and 5-4.

Crossroads split with Windward, following an 8-6 win with a 7-4 loss, leaving the Roadrunners 11-5, including 7-3 in the Delphic League. Eric Jaffe is hitting .439, Devin Antin .431, Kyle Fishburn .422 and Teddy Forsher .404.

New Roads defeated Ribet Academy, 23-0 and Shalhevet, 6-5. The Jaguars’ overall record is 13-9, including 6-1 in the Harbor League.

Brentwood was shut out by Pasadena Poly, 4-0 and Campbell Hall, 5-0 to become 10-14 overall, including 3-5 in the Olympic League.

Malibu was defeated by Oaks Christian, 13-6 before pounding Santa Clara, 16-1. The Sharks have a 10-13 record, including 5-7 in the Frontier League.

In the LA City Section, Palisades won the Western League with a 12-3 record (17-11 overall). Westchester finished second, University third and Venice fourth at 8-7 (9-16 overall).

Last week Palisades defeated Westchester, 3-2 and lost to University, 10-8. Venice lost to University, 2-1 and defeated Fairfax, 10-0.
