Tom Ponton Named to City Commission:

Mar Vista Community Council Chair Tom Ponton has been appointed by Councilman Bill Rosendahl to represent the 11th District on a City commission to study the neighborhood council system.

A lifelong Mar Vista resident and long active in the community, Ponton has helped protect the Ballona Wetlands, took part in organizing the very first Park Advisory Board at Mar Vista Recreation Center (MVCC) and worked to lessen the impact of Playa Vista on the area’s traffic.

Of his new appointment, Ponton says, “Bill Rosendahl isn’t the only one who believes in bringing everyone to the table. As chair of the MVCC, I’ve always fought hard for open public meetings that include everyone willing to participate. I’m honored to serve as a commissioner. I’ll work to embrace the views and concerns of the other neighborhood council participants throughout Council District 11.”

The commission has 29 members, and is expected to start meeting some time in June.
