DUI Checkpoint Comes to Mar Vista This Week

The department is also conducting DUI saturation patrols in multiple divisions throughout the week, including operations in North Hollywood, Olympic, Newton and Van Nuys.

The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday evening at Venice Boulevard and Centinela Avenue in the city’s Westside.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 23 as part of a weeklong series of DUI enforcement operations across the city running from July 20 through July 25.

LAPD said checkpoint locations are chosen based on data showing high rates of impaired driving crashes and arrests. Locations are subject to change or cancellation.

The department is also conducting DUI saturation patrols in multiple divisions throughout the week, including operations in North Hollywood, Olympic, Newton and Van Nuys.

Officials reminded drivers that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can all affect driving ability, and driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal despite its legal status for medicinal or recreational use.

A first-time DUI conviction in California carries an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties along with a suspended license, according to LAPD.
