Sexual Assault at Virginia Avenue Park:

 In the early morning of Tuesday, July 11, a woman told Santa Monica Police that she had been using the payphone at Virginia Avenue Park at about 6:10am when a man approached her and then sexually assaulted her.

The man was reported to have fled the park in the 2200 block of Virginia Ave. on a bicycle, but the police have no description of the bike. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released, police reported.

SMPD Lt. Frank Fabrega said that the suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 20 years of age. 

Police encourage anyone having information regarding this incident to contact them at 310.458.8491 or Sergeant Gary Herman or Detective Sal Lucio at 310.458.8451. Callers who wish to provide anonymous information may also call the We-Tip national hotline at 1.800.78.CRIME (27463).  Callers with information that leads to an arrest and conviction become eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
