Dr. James E. Murphy, a chemistry professor at Santa Monica College, has been named a recipient of the Marvin Elkin/Northrop Grumman Chair of Excellence in Physical Science.
Murphy, an M.I.T. graduate, will use the $15,000 award – $5,000 each year for the next three years – for projects with students in the field of nanotechnology.
SMC has been home to Murphy since 1995, and his wife is a math professor at the college.
