Turnovers Hurt St. Monica In Second Loss, 43-6:

St. Monica was, in the words of Coach Chris Caminiti, “severely overmatched up front.”

But that was only one of the Mariners’ problems in a 43-6 non-league loss to host El Segundo Friday night, September 15. The Mariners were plagued by turnovers, something they avoided the previous week in an opening game defeat against Bishop Montgomery.

The good news was that senior quarterback David Aiello wasn’t seriously injured after coming out of the game following a collision with a teammate. Aiello was hurt on a two-point conversion attempt after he scored the Mariners’ only touchdown on a two-yard run late in the third quarter.

“He went back in,” said Caminiti. “He’s fine.”

St. Monica will play at Malibu Friday night, September 22, and will have its annual game against Santa Monica at Corsair Field the following Friday.
