Lighthouse Avenges Loss To New Roads:

Mitch Chortkoff, Mirror Sports Writer

Lighthouse Christian of Santa Monica has avenged an earlier girls’ volleyball loss to New Roads and taken the upper hand in the Harbor League race.

Lighthouse Christian defeated New Roads last week, 25-23, 16-26, 25-23, 25-23 in a match at the Crossroads gym. It was New Roads’ Spirit Week, which brought out 200 rabid rooters.

Outside hitter Stephanie Sommers had 20 kills.

The teams have split their two meetings, and it would seem they will share the league championship if both win their remaining two matches. However, the CIF frequently breaks ties by weighing more heavily the result of the second meeting.

If that device is used, Lighthouse would prevail.

Lighthouse Christian’s all-CIF setter, Emily Hamilton, suffered a torn ACL early in the season, forcing major adjustments. Lighthouse has an overall 10-4 record, including 8-1 in the league.
