The plans for Santa Monica College to purchase a seven-acre site in Malibu have come to a halt.
The SMC Board of Trustees decided against the property. “Following a comprehensive investigation of the site located at 23801 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu, the college has determined that the site will not be adequate for our development needs, and therefore, we have terminated the purchase contract,” said SMC Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Nancy Greenstein.
The school is still interested in acquiring property in Malibu. “Several alternative sites have been identified,” said SMC President Dr. Chui L. Tsang, “and both the College Board and city officials are optimistic that a suitable location in the Civic Center will be found for the Malibu campus.”
The funds come from Measure S, passed by voters in Santa Monica and Malibu in 2004.
