Carlthorp School Named Blue Ribbon School:

Santa Monica’s Carlthorp School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

To receive the Blue Ribbon title, a school must either show tremendous improvement in student achievement or is required to be amongst the best academically in its state.  Both public and private institutions are eligible to become Blue Ribbon schools.

Said Headmistress Dee Menzies, “We have high expectations for student achievement.  Carlthorp School expects thoroughness, accuracy and responsibility for all schoolwork.  Respect is emphasized.  Students learn to behave as responsible citizens in our school and community.”

In addition to academics, Carlthorp emphasizes character development: “truth, courtesy, respect, kindness, personal responsibility, individual integrity, best efforts, self improvement and being a good American citizen.”

Founded in 1939, Carlthorp graduates go on to other elite Westside schools, including Crossroads, Brentwood, Lincoln Middle School, Harvard-Westlake and Windward.
