Calvary Christian School Sends Love for the Holidays:

The students at Calvary Christian School in Pacific Palisades made a very special effort to bring Christmas joy to the children living at the Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage in Mexico.

In December, Calvary students packed over 120 boxes that were delivered to the children in time for Christmas. As part of a school-wide community service initiative every student in Calvary’s seventh and eighth grade classes has “adopted” two children that they will reach out to during the 2006-07 school year. Students will write letters, pray for their children and send packages with basic necessities including clothing, toys and books. The highlight of the relationship between the Calvary students and the children at the orphanage will be two visits made to Mexico during the school year.

Casa Hogar Sion is a Christian orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico that houses 120 orphan children, from newborn through age 16. In addition to housing and caring for these children, the orphanage is also responsible for making sure the children go to school, receive prayer, crisis intervention and skills training for eventual life outside the orphanage. Calvary’s goal is to provide support and aid to this poverty-ridden community south of our border, to help students realize their potential to make a significant difference in the life of another and to lift others out of poverty and provide hope through prayer and service.

Calvary Christian School has taken a leadership role in teaching its students about the importance of serving others. This fall the school began a new program dedicated to service in our community, our nation and our world. The students at Calvary Christian School have been blessed with tremendous resources, and are experiencing the blessings of giving to others. Students are encouraged to personally sacrifice by giving up something themselves in order to make a difference in the life of someone less fortunate. Each student in kindergarten through eighth grade will be involved in the program, which is based on the development of key relationships with service ministries that need prayer, support and resources. The partner organizations will remain the same from year to year, providing students with the opportunities to serve in many capacities during their years at Calvary Christian School.
