Girls Go On Winning Streaks:

The girls’ basketball teams at Santa Monica and Venice highs are on seven-game winning streaks and are undefeated in their leagues.

Samohi lost to North Riverside High on December 29, then went through January without a defeat.

In recent games, Samohi had a 76-20 win over Morningside and defeated Hawthorne, 53-19. The Vikings are 14-7 overall and 6-0 in the Ocean League.

Venice is 7-0 in the Western League (11-8 overall) following wins over Palisades (69-40), Westchester (58-28) and Hamilton (67-36).

Marlee Rice leads Venice in scoring with a 15.6 average, followed by Shannon Nakanine at 15.2. The team’s leading rebounder is Jewell Morris.

Crossroads defeated Atcher, 58-23, as part of the Crossroads Extravaganza Friday, as Christina Murphy scored 21 points and Shannon McQueen 15.

Coach Danielle Minton’s team has clinched a playoff berth with a 6-1 league record going into the final week of the regular season.
