Brentwood Sweeps Pair Of Baseball Games From Crossroads:

There have been many chapters in the Brentwood-Crossroads sports rivalry over the years and another one has been added.

This baseball season both teams were assigned to the Alpha League – Crossroads moving up after finishing second twice in the Delphic.

As a result their two meetings took on more significance.

Last week Brentwood won, 2-0, although Crossroads’ promising left-handed pitcher Dylan Moyer was superb only to be the victim of key errors.

And then, in a rematch Friday night, April 13 at Clover Park, Brentwood took a 9-1 lead after two innings but had to hold on for a 13-12 victory.

The evening game brought on considerable fan interest, the spectators including players from neighboring Santa Monica High and Windward.

Brentwood’s record improved to 10-3 and Crossroads became 5-7.

Ben Oliva has pitched four of Brentwood’s wins and Ryan Toonin three.

“Anytime Brentwood and Crossroads play it’s a decent rivalry,” said Crossroads Athletic Director Chuck Ice.

The schools also met in softball last week with Brentwood winning, 1-0.

Recognizing the depth of the rivalry, Crossroads held an extravaganza during the basketball season with the schools vying in several sports on the same day.

The event was capped at night when a large gathering watched a Roadrunner-Eagle soccer match while in the adjacent gymnasium a capacity crowd saw the boys’ basketball teams play.

Crossroads will host another night baseball game Friday, April 20 at Clover Park, opposing New Roads at 7 p.m.
