The Los Angeles Press Club has announced the finalists for its 2007 Southern California Journalism Awards and three of them are from the staff of the Santa Monica Mirror.
Art Director Deborah Daly was named in the Design category for Daily/Weekly Newspapers (under 100,000 circulation), Staff Writer Sasha Stone was recognized in the field of Entertainment Reviews/Criticism/Column for Daily/Weekly Newspapers (under 100,000 circulation), and Photographer Margaret Molloy was included in the Feature Photo category for Art/Photography in Print (regardless of circulation). There are four or five finalists in each of these categories. All awards are for work published in calendar 2006.
Molloy, whose photograph “Shopping Vortex” ran on the front page of the Mirror for December 21-27, 2006, is in competition with, among others, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Rick Loomis of the Los Angeles Times.
Winners will be announced at the 49th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards dinner to be held June 16 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
