Fired Palisades Baseball Coach Continues To Consider Options:

Tom Seyler, who was fired as Palisades High’s baseball coach after his pitchers hit seven Chatsworth High batters in a playoff game, spent the last week evaluating his position.

Seyler, who spoke to the Mirror and the Palisadian-Post shortly after Palisades High removed him as coach, refused an interview request from “The Big Show” on 710 ESPN on Friday, June 15.

However, an hour of the radio program was then devoted to the subject, with callers expressing their opinion.

One caller identified as a baseball scout said he has known Seyler for years and expressed the opinion the game plan was merely to pitch inside. The scout also said he knows the Palisades starting pitcher well and said the young man would never go along with a plan to hit batters.

“I made it clear beforehand that we didn’t want to hit batters,” Seyler said to the newspapers.

None of the hit batters were struck in the head.

Seyler retains his job as a teacher at Palisades.

In addition to the decision at Palisades High to remove Seyler as coach, further sanctions could be forthcoming from the City Rules Committee, which meets in mid-August. Seyler will not coach the Palisades American Legion baseball team this summer. Nick Amos, the Dolphins’ junior varsity coach, has accepted that assignment.
