Three persons were stabbed (one of whom remains hospitalized in serious condition) late Wednesday night (1:30 a.m. Thursday, August 2) on the beach just north of the Santa Monica Pier in what appears to be a gang-related incident. Police are seeking four suspects.
Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to “the 1500 block” of the Beach at approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 2, regarding a possible stabbing victim at that location. Upon arrival, the police found three stabbing victims. All victims were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Two of the victims were released a short time later while the third underwent surgery for a stab wound to the chest. As of late Thursday night, this victim was in serious condition and expected to fully recover from her injuries.
SMPD Lt. P.J. Guido, spokesman for the department, said, “A preliminary investigation revealed that two groups were involved in a fight in the 1500 block of the beach. Prior to the assault, one of the suspects yelled what is thought to be the name of a street gang before stabbing a 29-year old female from Los Angeles. During the fight, two other adult victims (a male and female also from Los Angeles) sustained stab wounds to their extremities.”
Police say that they are seeking four suspects, all female Hispanics, 17 to 20 years old. They are described as follows: (1) 5’, 130 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a white shirt and jeans; (2) 5’1”, 135 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a burgundy sweatshirt; (3) 5’1”, 100 lbs., black hair, brown eyes, wearing a white tube top, blue jeans and blue LA Dodgers jacket; and (4) short in stature, no further description.
A red Toyota and a grey vehicle were seen leaving the area shortly after the assault. “The investigation is ongoing,” said Lt. Guido.
