The War: Santa Monica Looks Back at World War II

In conjunction with the airing of the new PBS Ken Burns series The War, the Santa Monica Public Library will present an afternoon devoted to this city’s memories of that period. Speakers include Dutch Resistance veteran Curt Lowens, Navy WAVE veteran Helen Gilbert, the Library’s own Cynni Murphy, who will give a presentation of photographs from the Library’s archives, and Becky James from the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. Clips from The War will also be screened. Former Santa Monica Mayor Nat Trives hosts. 1-5pm, free, MLK Jr. Auditorium, Santa Monica Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., 310.458.8600.
