Dissed Off
Sunday, November 25 at 9:45 p.m. – corner of 10th Street and Olympic Boulevard – Police responded to a call concerning a Fight on the corner and located a homeless man who said that he had been standing on the corner when two acquaintances, also homeless, walked up and a conversation ensued. During the chat, the man felt the call of nature, and he turned around to relieve himself. The other two apparently felt, er, dissed at the fellow showing them his back, and they assaulted him, hitting him in the head with a glass bottle [deadly weapon] and punching and kicking him [feet qualify too], and then they fled as passersby called SMPD. Police have an alias on one of the suspects.
McClure Tunnel
Tuesday, November 20 at 12:50 a.m. – 1500 block of Pacific Coast Highway – Officers responding on an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call saw two men run from the vicinity of the McClure Tunnel and into a beach parking lot. The officers, thinking that the fellows might be the ADW suspects, detained them, determined they were not the ADW suspects, but saw that the fellows had cans of spray paint, that there was fresh “tagging” graffiti in the tunnel, and that there was more spray paint in their car. The two were arrested and charged with felony vandalism.
i Cugini
Wednesday, November 21 at 2:45 p.m. – 1501 Ocean Avenue – A transient man was sitting on the steps of i Cugini restaurant when employees asked him to leave. The man began to argue, pulled out a knife, and pointed it at the employees in a threatening manner. They went back in the restaurant and called police, who detained the man a block away. The officers found the folding pocket knife, and the employees identified the man, who was arrested for brandishing a weapon and violation of parole.
In the Alley
Saturday, November 24 at 11:15 a.m. – 1700 block of the alley south of Ocean Park Boulevard – A couple of HBD acquaintances [that’s “had been drinking”] were in the alley when the man attempted to grope the woman against her desires. She screamed and yelled, and employees of a local business called the police. Responding officers found both parties still there, and they arrested the man for sexual battery.
If Malibu Were Not Enough
Saturday, November 24 at 10:50 p.m. – 1400 block of Alley 19 – A couch that had been left in the alley was set on fire by person or persons unknown. A neighbor saw the blaze, doused it with his garden hose, and called the Fire Department. SMFD called the police for an arson investigation.
