On Friday night, January 11 the Inglewood High boys and girls basketball teams won Ocean League games from Santa Monica.
In the Samohi gym, Inglewood won a double overtime thriller, 54-52. Samohi caught up at the end of regulation on a three-point shot by Justin Maxwell and then forced another overtime on a three-pointer by Ed Willis.
In the second extra period Inglewood scored the winning basket with three seconds left and Samohi then missed a half-court attempt.
Maxwell made five three-pointers in the game.
The loss left Samohi with a 1-1 league record. The Vikings won their league opener at Morningside, 55-43, as Willis scored 18 points.
At Inglewood, the four-time league champion Santa Monica girls lost on January 11, 49-46.
Inglewood finished second in the league the last two years, and the Sentinels and Vikings are considered co-favorites this season.
