Luna Angel grew up with a reggae heritage (her uncle, Junior Marvin, was at one time Bob Marley’s guitarist), as well as an affinity for American R&B. Jazz Funk Fest

June 14, free, Sponto Gallery, 7 Dudley Avenue, Venice, 310.306.7330.

This show highlights some of Venice’s local talent. Black Shoe Polish combines music, spoken word, improvisation, and the use of all sorts of instruments including whistles, music boxes, and harmonicas. Freddy Gins has played in Venice bands for years; his current combo is Zebra Party who play blues influenced by Mose Allison and Detroit funk keyboardist Lyman Woodard. Topping it off is Eric Ahlberg’s Jazz Workshop, probably the best jazz you’re going to hear around town, absolutely free.
