Eco-luxury at Its Finest:

In the world of green living, you could call Kelly LaPlante, owner of Organic Interior Design on Windward Circle in Venice, the doyenne of eco-design. For nearly 10 years she has been spreading her eco-expertise to the homes of actors, politicians, innovators and entrepreneurs across the country, using organic fabrics, sustainable materials, and creative recycling.

Kelly lives by the philosophy that “green” is a standard, not a style. Her work exemplifies the excellence and lush beauty available nowadays through sustainable products. She incorporates the character and taste of the individual client, never sacrificing aesthetics, quality, or environment. Going “green” doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy all new furnishings. Kelly says “the most eco-friendly thing to do, and what is best for the earth, is to re-use what you already have.” A step toward reducing your carbon footprint can be as simple as a repurposing of your existing furniture.

Kelly’s designs have ranged from a rooftop space in Manhattan to Louis B. Mayer’s former office in downtown Los Angeles, in styles from Victorian to ultra-modern, proving that life in the green lane can be very chic.

If you wish to be truly inspired by the possibilities of eco-luxury you must check out Kelly’s new book Ecologique: The Style of Sustainable Design designed by award-winning book designer, Deborah Daly. This beautiful coffee table book showcases elegant, eco-friendly indoor and outdoor spaces and the extraordinary people who inhabit them. Rich with exquisite full color photographs to inspire the inner designer in us all, it is a wonderful resource.

écologique features LaPlante’s work on the homes of actors Tiffani Thiessen, Michael Rappaport, Amy Smart and Ally Sheedy, best-selling author Alexandra Robbins, acclaimed photographer Christophe von Hohenberg, and the office of Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti, among others.

LaPlante’s showroom in Venice features vintage, antique and sustainable-new furnishings. Her new studio collection, “jak”, a collaborative effort with designer James Saavedra, debuted on the Sundance Channel set from Project Greenhouse at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Today with the immediate threat of global environmental issues, we can’t afford to live the way we have in the past. La-Plante’s Organic Interior Design is showing people alternatives, not only with decor but how every little thing we do in our homes can have a great impact on the environment for the future.

With 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the book being donated to Global Green USA and the Blank Theater Company, you can purchase this unique treasure with the great feeling that you have already made your first step in helping the environment…. Now on to the home renovation.

Ecologique: The Style of Sustainable Design (July 1, 2008, Hardcover, $50.00) is available at Kelly La Plante, Organic Interior Design, Inc., 1501 Main Street, Venice or online at www.kellylaplante.com
