Pali Blues Win Soccer Championship:

This season the Pali Blues became an expansion soccer team in the W-League and played home games at Palisades High.

The women did much more than merely join up. They won every time, capped by a 2-1 victory over FC Indiana August 2 in the league’s championship match in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Coached by Chuck Naimo, the Blues went 14-0 and never trailed except for a 1-0 deficit early in the title game.

Then a goal by Amy LePhilbet tied the score and another by Ilania Pasqui five minutes later was the game winner.

LePhilbet was named MVP of the championship match.

“Our depth was a huge reason why we won,” said Naimo. “Our bench gave us the energy we needed.”

Seattle and Washington were the other teams that reached the Final Four.

There could be significant changes in the makeup of the league’s teams next season because a new league – Women’s Professional Soccer – will make its debut.
