Under sunny skies, last Sunday marked the annual American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Santa Monica Region 20 Five-on-Five Tournament at Clover Field. With 64 teams competing, it is the city’s largest annual one day youth sports tournament. In Girls Under 10 Division competition, CJ Benn (photo) advances the ball up field in first round competition. Her team, the Patriots, is coached by her father, Alex Benn. Winning/runner up coaches in each of the competing divisions include: U10 Girls Del Piccolo/Balfus; U10 Boys Wolfe/Gallie; U12 Girls Shapiro/Alatorre; U12 Boys Ayala/Warshauer; U14 Girls Berry/Worthen; and, U14 Boys Kirtley/Kornfield. Santa Monica AYSO fields over 1,500 soccer players aged 4-18 each fall, and the league is made possible by the efforts of hundreds of adult volunteers.
