Congratulations Follow St. Monica’s Victory:

As one might expect, it was a joyous week at St. Monica after the football team ended a four-year, 37-game losing streak.

The 21-19 victory at Salesian High on November 14 was followed by emails and calls of congratulations as administrators, coaches, players and their families, and alumni shared in the glee.

“I had a lot of emails all week,” said Coach Sean Ritter. “I’m so happy for the players, especially the seniors.”

With the season over, players turned in their equipment and Ritter planned a trip home to Connecticut for Thankgiving. But it will be a short break before off-season conditioning, including weight lifting, begins.

St. Monica has some promising young players, including quarterback Sam Holguin, to comprise the nucleus of next season’s team, which will again play in the Santa Fe League.

Some will attend summer football camps if funds are available.

The league’s coaches held their annual meeting to decide on all-league selections. The results will be announced after the playoffs conclude for the teams still participating.
