O’Connor Receives Inaugural County Award:

Santa Monica City Councilmember and MTA Director Pam O’Connor was presented with the L.A. County Board of Supervisors’ first ever Green Leadership Award for 2008.

Yvonne B. Burke, who chairs the Board of Supervisors, said, “Pam’s leadership and personal commitment to the environment has put both the City of Santa Monica and MTA on the national stage.  As a Councilmember, Pam’s ability to motivate and inspire others has led to revolutionary innovations including the adoption of the first local green building code and the Solar Santa Monica initiative.“

Last Earth Day, Supervisors Burke and Zev Yaroslavsky urged the County to implement a Green Leadership Award program to showcase the diverse local achievements occurring throughout the entire County of Los Angeles.  O’Connor received the inaugural award in acknowledgement of her leadership to enhance community livability and environmentally sustainable climate protection throughout the entire region.

“As Chair of MTA, O’Connor’s leadership was fundamental in establishing a Sustainability Committee to ensure that MTA reduces its own operational environmental footprint, and has led MTA to partner with other stakeholders to implement regionally effective climate adaptation strategies,” said Burke.
