Samohi Coach Duron Praises Decker:

Rob Duron has been in the news lately after coaching the Santa Monica High baseball team for two years and recently resigning.

Today Duron turns his attention to former Viking and UCLA baseball star Cody Decker, who has been drafted by the San Diego Padres and will soon begin his professional career.

Kevin Brockway was the Samohi coach when Decker played and Duron didn’t know Decker. But Decker came to Samohi last season and introduced himself to Duron. This season Decker attended several Viking games and practices.

“I have nothing but good wishes for Cody,” said Duron. “He is a wonderful young man.

“He showed up to practice, helped the players and was very humble about his athletic ability (the good ones usually are).”

Decker led the Pac-10 Conference in home runs this season with 22 and batted .322.
