Drunken Sex Offender Busts Head on Pier: APB: May I See Your Registration, Please?

On Sunday, June 12, at 1:07 p.m., officers of Santa Monica Police Department were working on the Santa Monica Pier when a citizen informed them that a man with a bloody face was staggering around in front of Santa Monica Pier Seafood restaurant.

The officers went to the location and quickly discovered that this man had been drinking heavily. He told them that he had injured himself after falling down. The officers decided that this man was unable to care for himself due to the extent of his intoxication, and placed him under arrest.

The officers allowed some paramedics to tend to the man’s injuries, and as they were doing so the man informed them that he was a sex offender and that he had failed to register as such, which is an offence. The 46-year-old homeless man was taken to jail where he was booked for failure to register as a sex offender, and public intoxication. His bail was set at $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com
