A silver 1999 Ferrari heading from Malibu to Pacific Palisades along the Pacific Coast Highway crashed into a power pole at about 1:27 a.m. this morning, killing the passenger in the car and critically injuring the driver.
The crash occurred just inside the L.A. city limits. The PCH was reopened to full traffic at about 7 a.m.
The Ferrari was cut in two on impact with the power pole, and both passengers were thrown out, according to reports.
The men landed on the beach, which is about 30 feet below the road at that point.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the passenger of the car, 23-year-old Basil Max Price III, of Pomona, died at the scene.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to UCLA Medical Center in critical condition, according to The Times.
No other cars were believed to have been involved.
