Samohi Takes Out El Camino Real in Overtime: Vikings to Play for Fifth Place in Tourney

Samohi's Kyle Banks breaks free for his only two points of the night with a third quarter layup.

A steal with less than two minutes left in overtime led to an open fast-break lay-up for Samohi’s Jordan Mathews to put the Vikings up 62-57 on El Camino Real on Friday. The Conquistadors never took back the lead and Samohi held on for the 64-61 win.

Jordan Mathews led all scorers with 22 points. Trey Thompson added 13 points (12 in the first quarter), Jordan Walker added 11, and Trevis Jackson scored 10.

Camino Real’s Julian Richardson scored 17 points in the battle. Maleke Haynes scored 13 points Evan Wardlow had 11.

Samohi will finish “The Tournament” playing for fifth place against Windward on Saturday. Tip-off is in the Samohi gym at 3:30 p.m.
