Updated 4:10 p.m.

A suspicious package inside the lobby of the Georgian Hotel, located at 1415 Ocean Ave., prompted the evacuation of its guests earlier today.

The Santa Monica Police Department established a perimeter and evacuated the hotel as a precaution after hotel staff reported the suspicious package at about 9:30 a.m.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad also responded to assist.

Shortly after 3 p.m. this afternoon, SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said the call regarding the suspicious package had been resolved and the street had been re-opened.

Residents and visitors had been asked to stay out of the area until the incident concluded.
