What’s Hot: Staged Reading of Raymond Chandler’s The Pencil:

Staged Reading of Raymond Chandler’s The PencilSaturday

Fans of Raymond Chandler’s hard-boiled detective fiction style are in for a treat as the Santa Monica Public Library and the Ruskin Group Theatre collaborate to present a staged reading of Chandler’s last Philip Marlowe short story, The Pencil.

It will be held this Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m. in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium.

Adapted by Ed Horowitz especially for this staged reading, The Pencil finds Philip Marlowe taking on the case of a man who’s been penciled in for a hit by underworld figures.

The script was adapted from Raymond Chandler’s last Marlowe short story, 1957’s “The Pencil,” as well as Chandler’s own letters and papers. A talkback between the audience and actors follows the onstage performance.

This program free and is open to all. Seating is first come, first served.

Santa Monica Public Library is located at 601 Santa Monica Boulevard in Santa Monica.
