The 9th Annual “Taste of Malibu” Food & Wine Festival returns this Thursday, Aug. 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Malibu and Vine tasting room at the Malibu Golf Club.
Organizers say the event is set to be a great opportunity to meet new friends, do some business, and indulge in good food while tasting wines.
Some of the vineyards participating include Rosenthal Malibu Estate, Dolan, Hoyt, and Malibu Sanity.
Ryan Steers, of ColCanyon Estate Wines, said the event was a great way to showcase local viticulture and raise awareness of the high quality award winning wine coming out Malibu.
“At every tasting there are still people that come up to us and say ‘Wow, I had no idea there were so many vineyards in Malibu,'” Steers said. “Some wineries are importing a majority of their juice, but we focus on 100 percent locally grown estate fruit from the sunny hills of Malibu.”
Carol Hoyt, of Hoyt Family Vineyards, said it was recently selected “Microwinery of the Year” at the California State Fair.
Its 09 Cab received double gold and 98 points while its Tempranillo received gold and 93 points. Its Malibu estate grown Chardonnay received 89 points and silver medal. Rounding out the awards was its white wine blend “Decoupage” that received a bronze and 87 points.
“We are thrilled to a part of the growing Malibu region of wine makers,” Hoyt said. “The Chamber has been helping to promote the Malibu wines and it is a pleasure to work with them and support our City.”
Chef Matthew Zubrod, of Malibu and Vine, and Chef Francesco Velasco, of Tra di Noi Malibu, will be creating a limited seating VIP Taste Lounge, that will have the two award winning Chefs putting together signature tastes using local farmers paired with their favorite wines from Malibu and beyond. These tickets are $65 and also includes the general admission to the main event.
General admission tickets are on sale for $35.
