Artist Michael Temple Leaves His Mark On Trunk Gallery:

Many artists create art to have their voice heard and to leave their mark on the world. It is their legacy – a way their work can live on after they are gone.

Taking it one step further, artist Michael Temple painted the façade of Trunk Gallery for his new exhibition, opening Saturday, Oct. 6.

Gallery director and owner Ann Perich opened Trunk Gallery just over a year ago and started using the front of the gallery to utilize all available space.

She then realized how much attention it attracted from busy Venice Boulevard.

For a recent exhibition, The Flower Show, Perich hung an 8’x8’ painting with colorful flowers inside the window.

“With the reaction of people and the notice the gallery got, I realized that changing the outside to reflect what was going on inside was a great idea,” Perich said.

Perich said Temple was drawn to the gallery because of the art in the window and asked if he could do a show and paint the façade of the gallery.

“He’s bringing a part of his work outside the gallery walls – what’s great is you don’t have to enter the art gallery to enjoy his work, it touches all who drive, ride or walk by,” she said.

For Temple, creating art has been a passion since he was just a boy.

However, art is not the only form of artistic expression that he has been utilizing.

For the past 30 years, Temple has been performing with the popular world beat band “The Bonedaddys” as an original founding member and percussionist.

Temple said he paints everyday.

“Although I began to develop my visual language 40 plus years ago (Lower-glyphics), it took me a while to develop enough confidence to trust it,” he said. “Now I do trust the shaman within; and with my visual vocabulary, the rhythm in the performance and the alchemy of paint, I create my view of the cosmos.”

When asked what his favorite medium is, he replied, “I mainly use painting and drawing mediums but keep coming back to oil.”

He is excited to be sharing this exhibition with his longtime friend and artist/musician Moris Tepper. A heavy hitter in the music business, Tepper has toured and played on numerous albums with talents such as Captain Beefheart and P.J. Harvey.

The opening reception takes place on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. at Trunk Gallery, located at 12818 Venice Blvd, 90066, Los Angeles. Refreshments will be served.

The Cairo Cowboy food truck will be joining the event as well, offering Mediterranean cuisine. Stop into their new restaurant at 46 Windward Ave in Venice Beach (www.CairoCowboy.com).
