Santa Monica Police Arrest Apple MacBook Thief After Using Forensic Evidence: Alert Police Blotter: MacBooked.

Santa Monica police tracked down and arrested a 20-year-man on Saturday, Nov. 10 after finding him in possession of an Apple MacBook that had been stolen from inside a home.

This story began on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 4:49 p.m. when a victim called in a report that his home had been burglarized when he was away.

At that time an officer investigated and took a report.

Apparently the resident had left his home via the rear kitchen door leaving the door open with the screen intact.

When he returned about 30 minutes later, the resident discovered the screen had been removed and that his Apple MacBook computer had been taken from inside the residence.

Forensic experts from the Santa Monica Police Department attended the scene at that time and processed the residence for evidence.

On Friday, Nov. 9, investigators discovered evidence that led them to possibly identifying a suspect in the burglary. On Saturday Nov. 10, at 12:05 a.m. officers found this suspect sleeping in his car in the 2300 block of Kansas Avenue and took him into custody.

The officers looked in the car and found the stolen Apple MacBook on the back seat.

This homeless man was charged with burglary and his bail was set at $50,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
