Subaru Of Santa Monica To Help With Meals On Wheels West Deliveries Thursday:

Subaru of Santa Monica will tomorrow partner with Meals On Wheels West, a local non-profit that hand-delivers nutritional meals and social interaction to homebound residents and their pets.

This Thursday, Dec. 20, the day before the Mayans predict the world will end, Subaru of Santa Monica employees will use a fleet of Subaru vehicles to help deliver nutritious meals and holiday gifts to homebound residents and their pets in Santa Monica.

It is part of Subaru of America’s national “Share the Love” Event.

The fleet of Subaru vehicles will depart on routes beginning at 1:15 p.m. from Meals On Wheels West offices located at 1823-A Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica 90404.

“Share the Love” is a marketing campaign based on the love Subaru owners have for their vehicles and their desire to help worthy causes.

Subaru’s “Share the Love” Event runs until Jan. 2, 2013.

As in previous years, Subaru of America will donate $250, up to a total of $5 million, for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 21 through January 2. Subaru has donated nearly $20 million to charitable causes and organizations since the “Share the Love” campaign debuted four years ago.

“Just like Subaru owners, the staff at our local dealership cares deeply about giving back, especially through our long-standing partnership with Meals On Wheels West,” said Subaru of Santa Monica owner Ron Davis. “With more than 5,000 residents over the age of 85 in Santa Monica, the work of Meals On Wheels West is vital, and we are proud to continue to support their efforts to end senior hunger in our community.”

Every weekday, Meals On Wheels West volunteers deliver companionship and two nutritious meals to homebound, elderly and disabled residents and their pets.

The services allow clients to remain living independently in their homes rather than moving to assisted living facilities or burdening public services. Meals cost an average of $8 per day, but no client is turned away for inability to pay. Regular healthy meals improve overall health and are as important as prescription medication.

Meals On Wheels West serves more than 300 clients in Los Angeles’ coastal communities of Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga and parts of Marina Del Rey.
