Santa Monica Playhouse Presents ‘Hebrew Hillbilly’ Saturday Night:

Santa Monica Playhouse presents “The Hebrew Hillbilly” at 8 p.m. tonight, Jan. 26 (to be repeated Saturday, Feb. 2 at the same time).

Singer-songwriter Shelley Fisher stars in her own one-woman musical, taking a wry look back her life and career from her early upbringing as a Jew in Memphis to her adventures in and out of the entertainment industry.

The show begins in the heart of the Mississippi Delta in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and Bar-b-cue. Growing up Jewish in the deep South with a flamboyant mother who frowned on her dating the local redneck boys, the Hebrew Hillbilly begins singing as a little girl and never stops.

Admission $30. The playhouse is located at 1211 4th Street, Santa Monica.
