Women’s History Month Events In Santa Monica Begin February 26:

The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) celebrates March as Women’s History Month with several events.

The 2013 theme is “Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).”

In celebration, the COSW is promoting a month of events throughout the City designed to support and promote women’s achievements, courage and creativity.

COSW will kick-off the month with an opening reception on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at 6 pm, in the foyer of Santa Monica City Hall (1685 Main Street).

This will immediately be followed by an official proclamation by City Council and the Mayor officially declaring March as Women’s History Month. Launching simultaneously will be a photography exhibit of Santa Monica women throughout history in City Hall’s Foyer. The public is welcome to attend.

Throughout the month, the COSW will partner with a variety of City and local organizations to present a range of programming celebrating women’s achievements among them lectures, exhibitions, and panel discussions.

“We are honored to collaborate with our Santa Monica area partners working to promote a rich history of women and girls in our community,” said Sylvia Ghazarian, Vice Chair of the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women.

“Their exemplary pioneering work, scientific breakthroughs, invention of new technology, and creation of business opportunities in STEM will be recognized throughout the month.”
