Santa Monica police arrested a 23-year-old man on Friday, April 19 after being found to be under the influence of an illegal drug, then kicking an officer in the leg.
At 12:05 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 1800 block of Euclid Street after they had been informed of a fight in progress.
When the officers arrived they could not see anyone fighting, but they did discover that the origin of the disturbance was a nearby apartment.
There were several individuals inside this apartment, and one of these people suddenly exited.
The officers noticed that this person was sweating most profusely, and that his body appeared very rigid.
The officers checked this person out and discovered that his pulse was elevated, suggesting that he was under the influence of a CNS stimulant (central nervous system stimulants are medicines that speed up physical and mental processes. Due to their effects typically having an “up” quality to them, these stimulants are also occasionally referred to as “uppers.” People who abuse CNS stimulants run the risk of destroying their mental and physical health, and evidently being arrested).
During the booking process this overly stimulated individual suddenly became aggressive, turned towards an officer, and proceeded to kick the officer on the left leg.
This man was subdued and charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and battery on a police officer.
Bail was set at $20,000.
