Watercolorist Exhibits Paintings At Santa Monica Book Store:

One of Timothy Kitz's watercolors on display at Hennessey Ingalls Bookstore in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica landscape watercolorist Timothy Kitz is exhibiting his paintings and sharing his observations on painting in watercolor as the featured display in the center window at Hennessey + Ingalls Bookstore in Santa Monica for the month of September.

Hennessey + Ingalls Bookstore is located at 214 Wilshire Boulevard. Its open 10 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday.

Kitz is a local watercolorist whose paintings portray the distinctive scenery, atmosphere and activities that give the coastal area its own unique character, poetic charm and worldwide recognition.

His work on location “en plein air” and in studio reflects an ongoing journey with the watercolor medium that produces paintings of a spontaneous style, freshness and fluidity.

His appreciation for and highly personal interpretation of the environment can be traced to influences by the California Scene movement and the early coastal impressionists.

A largely self-taught watercolorist, the evolution of his craft has been informed by a lifetime of passion for the medium in print, exhibition pilgrimages and through multiple workshops with his mentor the Australian watercolor master Joseph Zbukvic.

His early fine arts training began at the University of Toledo School of Design and Herron School of Art of Indiana University.

He continues to hone his present plein air experience through active participation in paint-outs and exhibitions with the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore and as a member of the National Watercolor Society, the Valley Watercolor Society and the California Arts Club.
