A 54-year-old man crossing Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica was struck and killed by a motorist early Wednesday morning near the cross street of Pier Avenue.
Santa Monica Police Department Sgt. Jay Moroso said officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:09 am to find a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.
Moroso said the preliminary initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old female resident of Culver City, was traveling southbound on Lincoln and the pedestrian crossed Lincoln, eastbound, in front of her vehicle.
“The driver stated that she did not see the pedestrian until her vehicle struck him,” Moroso said.
Moroso said the male pedestrian sustained major trauma to his body as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of family.
“The driver of the vehicle was cooperative throughout the investigation and was determined to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” he said. “After being interviewed, she was released pending further investigation.”
