The Pacifica Christian volleyball team will have a chance to show just how good of a team it is in the next couple of weeks. The No. 1 ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 4A division, Pacifica Christian will host No. 3 Holy Martyrs Armenian Friday night, No. 6 Cate on Saturday, and No. 2 Laguna Blanca next Thursday.
The Seawolves, ranked eighth in the state, according to Maxpreps, also have big-time matches coming up against Providence, Windward and Glendale Adventist. Pacifica Christian is just coming off a tough 3-1 win against St. Monica.
Pacifica Christian defeated St. Monica 25-10, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-10, to close the deal on its seventh win of the season.
The fact that the Seawolves are the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division 4A should not come as a surprise. Pacifica Christian, outside of its lone blemish on its record, has run down the gauntlet of opponents on the team’s schedule and come up successful.
Among the teams that coach Julie Rubenstein’s squad has defeated include South Hills and Diamond Bar. Fueling Pacifica Christian’s early hot streak has been Grace Minchin and Maile Lane.
Lane, a junior, has recorded 22 kills, 20 digs and six block shots thus far for the Seawolves. Minchin, who is a senior, has picked up 27 kills and nine digs for the team.
Senior Shanon Volpis has also been dominant for the Pacifica Christian, producing 14 blocks and 18 kills for the Seawolves. As a team, Pacifica Christian averages 8.7 kills and 4.7 digs per set.
