Windward’s Basketball Star Can’t Miss: Jordin Canada is ranked as the No. 2 point guard in the nation

Football season is fast coming to a close. There’s a lot of hype and excitement surrounding the local football programs such as Santa Monica, St. Monica and Windward as the postseason creeps up within the next few weeks.

But buzz is just around the corner for another sport that some people can’t wait for. Basketball is next on the major sport docket. And it will be here pretty soon. But it can’t come soon enough for the Windward girls basketball team and star point guard Jordin Canada.

Well, it could be an exciting time for scouts looking to see if the UCLA commit might change her mind and decide to go elsewhere. Whatever the case may be, there will be a lot of eyes on the point guard sensation.

All eyes will also be on the Windward girls basketball team, which made it all the way to the state championship round last season.

Thanks to the dynamic play of Canada, Windward was ranked No. 2 in California and No. 3 in the country. Winward went undefeated down to the last game of the season, where they lost to Bishop ‘O Dowd in the title game, 60-45, to finish the year at 32-1.

Before she made her verbal commitment to the Bruins, Canada had the biggest programs in the country knocking down her down for her services for the next four years. Those programs include UConn, Stanford, Cal, USC and Tennessee. That’s pretty good company. Actually, it’s pretty special. But then again, Canada is a special player.

After scoring just over 12 points and dishing out five assists and totaling four rebounds a game after her freshman and sophomore seasons, Canada really blossomed as a player last season, attracting the attention of Division 1 schools. How good is Canada?

Well, the 5’7”, 132-pound senior has the bodacious handle of “Too Smooth” and has a plethora of YouTube mixtape highlights that showcases her extraordinary basketball wizardry. Canada is so good that she is ranked as the second-best point guard in the country at the high school level, according to Hoop Gurlz at ESPN W.

She is also considered to be the No. 6 girls high school prospect overall nationally. Canada and Windward got a scared over the summer when the star player suffered a sprained MCL in one of her knees while playing in a basketball tournament in another state. That’s about all that can slow down this hoopster.
