The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education will be holding a special meeting this Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 4 pm in the Lincoln Middle School cafetorium at 1501 California Ave., Santa Monica.
This workshop session will be the first opportunity for district stakeholder groups, along with the Board of Education, to listen to a thorough presentation regarding LCFF/LCAP, ask questions, and provide input as district staff works with community stakeholders to develop the SMMUSD LCAP.
The 2013-14 budget package replaces the previous K-12 finance system with a new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
For school districts and charter schools, the LCFF creates base, supplemental, and concentration grants in place of most previously existing K-12 funding streams, including revenue limits and most state categorical programs.
The State Board of Education is charged with developing regulations called the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), that are consistent with the new funding system and publishing those regulations in the spring of 2014.
The law specifies eight elements that each district must address in its LCAP.
The agenda for Nov. 19 is posted to the district website at www.smmusd.org/board/meetings.html.
